CITIBEACH CHALLENGE 2010
We have 4 major tournaments this year, the 12th year of the CITIBEACH CHALLENGE. This is a series with 9 grades, played over 2 days, with a level appropriate for both elite and social players. Round 1 will be in CAIRNS, 9-11 APRIL, and is also part of the SUNCORP NQ GAMES. Round 2 will be in ROCKHAMPTON AT MAY DAY WEEKEND 1-3 MAY, and Round 3 in TOWNSVILLE 12-13 JUNE, QUEENS BIRTHDAY weekend. Each event caters to over 100 competitors, including a FREE PRESENTATION DINNER. They will be followed by the BANK OF QUEENSLAND MASTERS IN AUGUST (see separate news item).
BANK OF QUEENSLAND MASTERS 2008
CitiBeach Volleyball hosted the Bank of Queensland Masters beach volleyball tournament on 2-3 August. 42 teams contested a total of 116 games, with competitor ages ranging from 30 to 60. Grades are determined by the combined ages of the team participants, with age divisions in Mens pairs, Ladies pairs and Mixed 3-a-side.

QLD JUNIOR BEACH TITLES 2009
CitiBeach Townsville players have performed with distinction at the Queensland Junior Beach Volleyball Championships 2009.
KING AND QUEEN OF THE BEACH 2010
On Sunday 16th May the annual King & Queen of the Beach volleyball tournament was held at CitiBeach Townsville. The original tournament was set for March but was disrupted by the approach of Cyclone Ului and rescheduled. This time weather was great with overcast skies and a light breeze to make playing conditions ideal. The format involves individuals competing in initial pools of 4 players, partnering each of the other players against the other two. After each player has played 3 games the results determine placings in each pool, and then competitors advance, but this time the players are in pools of all the firsts, all the seconds, etc. After 3 further rounds placings 1 to 16 are determined. The closeness of competition, and the adaptations required to play with so many different partners, is shown by the fact that no player emerged undefeated. Colin Church of Townsville was crowned King of the Beach, and Alex Meyer of Townsville crowned Queen of the Beach.
AUST MASTERS BEACH TITLES 2009
The Australian Masters Beach Volleyball Championships were held for 2009 at Geelong in the last week of February. It is held every second year, as part of the Australian Masters Games.
GAMES CANCELLATION
Games will only ever be cancelled if extreme weather conditions prevail, not just because it may be raining. If you have doubts ring us, don't assume. Any decision to cancel will not be made until 4pm, and then we will contact all team captains. Remember, it is a most unusual circumstance for this to occur.

KEEPING IN TOUCH
Over the years we have had a number of players and staff who have been great to know as people as well as volleyballers. Some have moved on to careers and study which have taken them not only away from Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, but in many cases overseas. We would love to hear from you.
STAFF WANTED
Canteen staff and umpires are required for evening work on a part-time but regular basis, for our Townsville centre. No experience needed, but a friendly, outgoing manner is important. Training will take about 2 weeks..See our ad....
