CitiBeach Townsville players have performed with distinction at the Queensland Junior Beach Volleyball Championships 2009.
These were staged at the Gold Coast on Saturday 31 October. A total of 6 grades were contested: Under-17, Under-19, and Under-23 Men’s and Ladies.
Jason Campbell and Bradley Hay won the Under-19 final against the Brisbane duo of Jon and Don Smith in straight sets, 18-12, 18-7 before joining the other Townsville pairing of Robbie Kuhn and Derryn Townson in a more seriously competitive Under-23 grade, with 9 teams. They performed creditably here, finishing in 5th place, and taking both the silver and bronze medallists to 3 sets in their pool play. The standout team in the grade were undoubtedly Kuhn and Townson, who didn’t drop a set. Their dominance was clear in the final when they easily accounted for Brisbane’s Ben Bell and Andrew Hobbs, 18-11, 18-4.
National Junior Titles are scheduled for mid-January at Glenelg Beach out of Adelaide. Both teams are keen to attend to test their skills at the highest level, representing Queensland. Congratulations for their Queensland performances and we wish them luck in performing at the Nationals.
